2014-2015 planning: events and activities to look out for

Community-University Talks has been busy planning our activities and events for the upcoming year and are excited to have recently been granted status as a QPIRG McGill working group for our third consecutive year!  THANK YOU QPIRG McGill!

Our plans for this year include more speaker events and panel presentations, our fourth annual Talk Forum and further activities in collaboration with DESTA Black Youth Network and with our friends at Wall of Femmes.

We will also be organizing an event in February 2015 celebrating the life and work of Malcolm X as we mark the 50th anniversary of his assassination (February 21st 1965).

Also coming up in 2015 will be the second Black Canadian Studies Association conference!  The conference, titled “Community, Empowerment & Leadership in Black Canada,” will be held at Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia from 21-24 May 2015. click here for call for papers

The HTMlles 11 – Feminist festival of media arts + digital culture: November 7-15, 2014, Montreal
Taking place in Montreal, The HTMlles is an international biennial festival that brings together artists, scholars and activists who are passionate about critical engagement with new technologies from a feminist perspective. Based on a specific theme, each edition addresses urgent socio-political questions by pushing the boundaries of artistic and feminist practices.

The HTMlles is produced by Studio XX, a bilingual feminist artist-run centre for technological exploration, creation and critique. Initiated in 1997, the festival began as an international platform for introducing women’s web art. Collaborating closely with partner organizations, The HTMlles has become a multi-site festival dedicated to the presentation of women’s, trans and gender non-conforming artists’ independent media artworks in a transdisciplinary environment that strives for anti-oppression.
