Encuentro performance art festival

A message from Rosamond King, a new friend that Cora-Lee, Kanisha, Kevin and rosalind met by beautiful fate last weekend!

My name is Rosamond S. King (www.rosamondking.com), and I am a performance artist, writer, and book artist of recent African and Caribbean descent.  When I’m not traveling or living elsewhere, I’m based in Brooklyn, New York, USA.  On Tuesday, 24 June, I will be performing Sable International as part of the Encuentro performance art festival (schedule at http://hemisphericinstitute.org/hemi/en/enc14/schedule-of-events) sponsored by the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics.  Hopefully, you’ve already heard of it; the organizers say they expect some 500 people to attend!

While the Encuentro focuses on work by artists from around the Americas, my performance will be part of a sequence that particularly showcases three back-to-back pieces by black artists.  For this reason, we want to reach out to fellow artists of color to help spread the word.

Wura-Natasha Ogunji (www.wuraogunji.com) will perform Sweep at the Place-d’Youville at about 4pm; my piece (www.rosamondking.com) will begin at the same place at about 4:30, and Gabrielle Civil (https://sites.google.com/site/gabriellecivil2/) will begin her piece Fugue (Da, Montréal)on the St. Jean/Notre Dame corner at about 5pm.

We would love to have you and your friends and fellow artists come see our work (and actually, Wura is looking for a few local women to perform with her!).

More information about the Encuentro is on their website and will be available at the Centre PHI starting 21 June.
